THE ART OF CHRIS NEAR
For characters I often work hand in hand with a character designer who is resposible for the design and in most cases I am given a finished black and white line drawing, upon which I then color light and texture. My training in photoshop allows me to create a character that has the look of 3d while remaining 2d. I then often supply modelers texture files along with my 2d image so that the character may then be built in a 3d software program. I am also a classicly trained traditional portracist and the skillset I have aquired from painting people has allowed me to work as a character likeness correction artist on a video game with highly recogognizable sports stars, where I served as the art director for overseas studios ensuring the resemblense of the athletes in the 3d program was as close to real life as possible.
